Speech Therapy
Oral language provides the base from which reading, writing and spelling skills develop, so early identification of problems in processing or expressing information is important. A Speech pathologist can provide an assessment and develop strategies to assist with language deficits, which can impact on literacy development and in turn lead to behavioural and emotional problems.
Medicare rebate: If your child has speech or language problems or requires occupational or other therapies, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of up to $45 per visit for up to 5 visits in a calendar year, to a private therapist. You may be able to access it through a Chronic Disease (or Condition) Management Plan under the Enhanced Primary Care Division of the Federal Health Department. Talk to your GP about this option.
